Fun Easter Gift Idea

I know that it is too late for this Easter, but here is a fun Easter (or anytime, really) gift for kids that doesn't involve sugar. :o)
I bought a tub of sidewalk chalk, divided it into twos, wrapped each pair in plastic wrap, made strips of paper to go around each set, and decorated the strips.
Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.
Here they are, all lined up and ready to go to Peachy's playgroup buddies.

Did I ever tell you that an awesome friend is letting her Cricut live with me for a while. (Like since before Christmas??!!!) I just wish I had more time to use it!!

Shirt Refashion Part Duex

Did you guess the secret to the shirt in this posting?

While it is from Target, it isn't from the women's department. 

I am letting a dirty little secret out of the bag here.

I sometimes shop in the girls' department!!

I know I am probably breaking some fashion code, but I am cool with it. (Just don't tell Clinton and Stacy.)

Why, hello there red tag? 

And what are you attached to?

It may not look like much more than a knit dress right now, but I saw potential in this little turquoise gal. (Her and two of her friends, black and pink.)

The first order of business was to loss the front pockets.

Next up, convert it from a dress into a shirt by taking off some length.

Not too bad.

Miss Pink is done, but I think that Miss Turquoise needs a little something extra.

That little ruffle by the yoke does the trick.

And Miss Black needs some flower detail on her yoke.

Are you ready for your close-up, Miss Black?

All in all, not too shabby. Three shirts for less than $10.

Foodie Friday: Freshly Loaded Quesadillas

These are the BEST quesadillas that I have ever eaten! They were so yummy and with all of the veggies, they have got to be the best for you, too. This recipe was in my techno menu for March from The Mother Huddle.

Ingredients:
-tortillas
-shredded cheese
-cooked and cubed chicken
-diced tomato
-diced zucchini
-diced onion
-minced cilantro
-diced red pepper
-chopped spinach

Directions:
Place large tortilla in heated skillet. Add toppings. Place a second tortilla on top. Once the bottom tortilla is browned, gently flip the quesadilla over. Continue cooking until second tortilla is lightly browned.
We topped ours with fresh salsa from one of the local Mexican restaurants in town. I was also planning on making guacamole, but none of the avocados were ripe at the store. I am sure that sour cream would also be a good topping.

**I have a quesadilla maker. I decided that this particular quesadilla would be too thick to cook properly in the maker. I wish that I would have tried the maker because I burnt the first one that I made and made and had technical difficulties when it came to flipping the second. They were still delicious, so in the end it probably doesn't matter.**

I picked up this shirt off the clearance rack at Target, too. (Only this one comes with a secret. I'll see if any of you can guess.)
It came looking pretty much like this. (Minus the riffle. Plus about three inches at the hem.)

I really did contemplate just hemming it up and wearing the Cleopatra bib with it. I even had it on once all ready to go out, but just couldn't do it. I think it looks like something a Miley Cyrus fan would wear to one of her concerts. I know some 30 year old mamas could rock it, but I am obviously not in this category.
So, I took some of the fabric I had cut off from the bottom, ruffled it, and sewed it on to the neckline.

Ah, now there is something that I can wear.
***Ugh, seeing these pictures makes me realize it is time to start doing some sit-ups. Bikini season is around the corner, you know. ;o)***

T-Shirt Refashion

Yes, I am jumping on the refashion blogwagon. I have a few shirts that I purchased on the Target clearance racks that were not ready wear. Not for me anyway. But I decided that I could make them work for me and picked them up anyway.
Today I'll share the easiest one. I don't think that it can really be called a refashion, more like an alteration. Here is one of the shirts pre-sewing machine.

A cute shirt, just a little too boxy for me.

See, here it is compared to one of my favorite fitting shirts.

Using my favorite short as a guide, I marked where I would need to take the new shirt in.

A few minutes with my serger and I have a new shirt with a great fit. See how happy it makes me?

Well, the shirt does make me happy, but so do my cutey new shoes!
